Dear All

As I am sure many of you are currently focusing on the terrible effect Covid 19 is having upon all our daily lives, I would like to wish you all a very safe journey through these unprecedented times.

Whilst Rugby seems a lifetime ago I thought it appropriate that I bring you up to speed on some recent developments.

As of Friday the RFU have issued the final League Standings for the 2019/2020 Season and as expected we have been relegated from South West 1 East. Huge congratulations to our 2nd and 3rd teams who have each secured their places on Dorset 1 South and Dorset 2 South for next season.

Looking at our relegation, it should be noted that we had one of the smallest point margins between survival and relegation across all the Leagues 1.52 points, taking into consideration we had two of the bottom 4 teams to play at home, who knows how this season would have ended up.

Let’s look forward to next Season in Southern Counties, the reality is that we will endure an unbelievable 1000 less miles of travel, we will enjoy local derbys against Salisbury, Dorchester, Swans and I believe our furthest away games will be a couple of visits to Swindon, so I think we can all take a welcome break from the 9.30 am coach departures.

I fully understand that we are all competitive animals and any relegation is hard to swallow, however playing any sport within a League structure removes a large element of luck, you need to be good enough and also you need to be consistent enough, the latter may have  let us down this season, certainly on the road.

Off the field, you will have all read the issues faced by community clubs across the country with regard to commercial strength. As you are aware, we are without doubt the most well supported club in the area, years of sound financial management has placed us in a good position  to sustain what we are facing today, so please do not be concerned - Wimborne RFC will very much be open for business once we beat this and our lockdown is lifted.

That being the case I very much look forward to meeting you all in due course for a couple of glasses of Wimborne's Finest.

Stay safe and keep in touch
Roger Whyle
