Wimborne Rugby Club's Mini & Youth section was established in the 1970’s and the fact that several of our early players are now involved as parents and coaches sums up our long-term approach. We endeavour to provide children with a life-long love of rugby and all the benefits it can bring, physically and socially, with an ethos that “every child matters”.

The Club has adopted the RFU emphasis on putting Player Development ahead of match results with a clear emphasis on skills and enjoyment throughout our Mini and Youth Age groups.

WIMBORNE MINI & YOUTH ETHOS
We are a friendly and welcoming family-orientated Club that provides an enjoyable and fulfilling rugby experience for young players of all standards and levels of ambition. We regard rugby as being “more than a game” and strive to develop our young players both on and off the pitch.
Wimborne Rugby Club’s Mini and Youth section operates a clear “Rugby For All” philosophy throughout its activities and aims to inspire a lifelong bond between young people, adults and our sport.

We will:

  • Put young players at the heart of everything we do and the decisions we make, ensuring that their Welfare and Safeguarding is central to all our activity.
  • Encourage the development of skills and enjoyment on and off the pitch through equal opportunities and realistic but challenging expectations of our young players.
  • Celebrate and work towards success on the pitch but value endeavour, enjoyment and the development of young players as highly as achievement.
  • Build the skills of our adults to provide a safe, healthy, respectful and enjoyable environment for our young players in which they are encouraged and supported to reach their full potential as players and people.
  • Develop our young players’ confidence and challenge any behaviour which conflicts with this.
  • Promote a “One-Club” focus; working closely with adult rugby, sharing knowledge and experience to develop skills and inspire our young players by developing a clear pathway for players, coaches and volunteers.
  • Develop a culture where it is safe and acceptable for everyone involved to raise concerns about any unacceptable behaviour, including electronic behaviour through social media.
  • Seek to improve diversity and continue to create an inclusive environment for all.
  • Ensure rugby is a game of opportunity, where all receive a warm welcome regardless of background or experience.

Underpinning this we will champion rugby’s Core Values:

Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship (TREDS).
