Matt Sturgess - Senior Lead Coach 2025/2026 Season

We are pleased to announce that Matt Sturgess will be rejoining Wimborne Rugby Club as our new Senior Lead Coach for the 2025/26 season.

Many of you will remember Matt from his time playing with us a few years ago, and he’s also had a big hand in coaching his son’s age group here, and at Bournemouth RFC, through to Colts.

We’re absolutely thrilled to have him back at Wimborne.

In recent years, Matt has been involved in coaching with Bath DPP and PDG, as well as Dorset & Wilts County as Head Coach for 15/16 age groups and he’s currently the Dorset & Wilts U20s Forwards Coach.

Before that, he was Forwards Coach and then Director of Rugby at Bournemouth RFC, where he played a key role in their journey at National League 2 level.

Matt’s got a wealth of experience and a true passion for the game. We’re looking forward to having him on board and are confident he’ll add a lot to the great work that’s been done at the club over the past few seasons.

He’ll be finalising plans and getting us get ready for pre-season after a well-earned break for everyone.

I am sure you will all give Matt a warm welcome back to the club and give him our usual Wimborne support throughout the season.

Mark Adams - Men's Team Manager

A warm welcome to Mark Adams as he joins our Management Team at Wimborne RFC.

Mark has a wealth of experience, previously with Dorchester RFC and currently Dorset & Wilts U20s Team Manager.

Mark is looking forward to working alongside Wimborne's Coaching and Managemnet Team, assisting the senior players in the upcoming season.

Phil Heritage - Men's Attack Coach

A warm welcome to Phil Heritage, who will be taking on the role of 'Attack Coach' and 'Team/Player Analyst'.

Phil has worked extensively in sports of all levels as a Sport Scientist and Performance Analyst.
He has worked with AFC Bournemouth, GB Snowsport, Red Bull Racing F1, and The International Biathlon Union.

Most recently, Phil coached at Bournemouth RFC. He has played at Havant RFC, and Aberystwyth, as well as touring Rugby 7s.
He also had a brief stint in Gaelic Football.

T1 Rugby - Girls Ages 10-16

Tues 8th & Thurs 15th July

6.30pm - 8.00pm

‘A game for everyone, played by anyone’, T1 Rugby has an emphasis on fun, fitness and inclusion and provides a fun, welcoming and safe environment for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

It is the first non-contact form of the game that reflects the characteristics of rugby union, including lineouts, scrums, kicking and a breakdown, while remaining simple to play.

Whether you walk or run, T1 Rugby can be played however you need. It is England Rugby’s endorsed non-contact format and is open to everyone.
