SHERBORNE 33 - 8 WIMBORNE
Wimborne not yet back to winning ways
Wimborne travelled to Sherborne who they have probably played more times in the league than most over the years with victories evenly spread across the two Clubs.
With yet again a much changed team with second team regulars Luke Carey and Jamie Walton drafted into the second row and scrum half Ollie Bourton standing in at fly half Wimborne looked up against in
On this occasion Wimborne started brightly and when debutant colt Keelan Stringer took his very first pass in senior rugby and rounded the home team defence to score in the corner things looked encouraging. Tom Chaffey’s attempted conversion agonisingly bounced back off the upright.
With a second colt Cameron Taylor on as a replacement and to the fore Wimborne gave as good as they got throughout the first half and whilst Sherborne hit back with a try of their own with similar results with the conversion it was Wimborne that edged in front just before half time with A Tom Chaffey penalty to turn around 8-5 to the good.
Wimborne had to rearrange their depleted resources even further wet half time when Jay Adams was forced to retire with a shoulder injury and unfortunately never got a look in during the second half when Sherborne gaining in confidence took a firm grip on the game and ran out easy winners with four converted and unanswered tries .
Once again as has been the case on a number of defeats this season Wimborne could not be falted for their effort and kept going right to the final whistle although not able to claw back any of the deficit.
