Many of you will have contributed to our ongoing efforts to remind East Dorset District Council of the longer term needs of the club by signing letters or by sending in your own personal submission and as a result Simon Humphrey and I were able to deliver in the order of 600 signed responses to the council offices.
The outcome of this is that we have been informed that we will now be given the opportunity to present our position to the full Council at a forthcoming meeting.
I am now also able to inform all club members and supporters that the planning consent for the site at Park Farm Leigh Road has now been issued by East Dorset District Council to the landowner.
This consent provides for the construction of in excess of 300 houses, the provision of a new first school site as well as the allocation of a site for the relocation of the club and other additional playing field provision as well.
The consent is accompanied by a Planning Agreement which sets out a range of legal requirements on the landowner and eventual developer of the land which includes the provision of a rugby club lease to be granted for a period of 50 years and relating to a specified area of land amounting to 5 hectares in comparison the current site at Leigh Park amounts to approximately 2.6 hectares.
We now have sight of the agreement and to ensure we are able to identify where the “devil is in the detail” we will be working with council officers to fully understand the implications and requirements the agreement to maximise a much as possible the benefits the club
It therefore remains important that we continue to engage with the Council in whatever way we can, and to continue to obtain their further support in achieving the delivery of the facilities we believe the club is worthy of obtaining and which we believe will provide a significant community benefit beyond the immediate relocation from our current site.
In parallel with this we will now look to re invigorate fund raising campaigns to support the considerable funding that will be required.
There is still a long long way to go but this is a significant step forward to have an identified site with an outline planning consent, and outside of the Green Belt! So thank you all for your ongoing support and we will continue to keep you updated on progress and enlist further assistance and input as we move forward.
