Wimborne secure final spot
U15 Report Dorset & Wilts Plate Semi-final
13 March 2016
Away v Dorchester Won 28-0
Into the last four of the Plate competition and off to the sunny west to meet the Pool 1 runners up Dorchester. Having not played them for a couple years, the boys entered the game focussed on themselves rather than worrying about who the opposition had playing for them. Straight from the kick-off the boys looked up for the challenge. They immediately exerted pressure and looked to attack moving the ball really well at every opportunity. Twice in the first ten minutes we had the ball over the line, only be held up. The opening try eventually came from the forwards doing excellent driving and offloading work to set up Morgan for the final thrust to score his first try of the season. Jake converted to add the extras. Nearly the entire first half was spent in their territory, but a combination of their good defence and our poor final pass at times kept the scoreboard down. Leo managed to straighten up and cross the line following another sweeping move that included great interplay between the backs and forwards. The conversion was good and we went into the break 14-0 up, but feeling that playing with the slope and wind, it should've been more
A host of half time changes had to be made, but with a clear encouragement to keep up the good work. The boys didn't let us down, and particularly at the scrum which had been so dominant in the first period, continued to be in control. Two more tries were added, firstly from Alex who broke clear for one his characteristic unstoppable, barnstorming runs. Arthur later similarly thrust through several would be tacklers to score just his second try for the club. Robbie D added both conversions, the second from a tough wide angle into the wind. The last few minutes where a bit fraught as Dorchester looked to break their duck, but the boys kept their heads, their discipline and the line intact.
A really pleasing victory, not just the scoreline but the way the boys played with pace and ambition. Tackling was superb, as was the scrum and breakdown, but the off-loading and support play was excellent. Well played boys, an absolute pleasure to watch.
