Early dominance pays off in game of two halves

Pool Match 2

v Sherborne RFC Won 44-17

For the first home tie of the pool competition, Wimborne flew out of the blocks opening the scoring with a try in the corner inside the first minute. The result of well structured phase play at high intensity from the forwards allowing the backs to effortlessly move the ball wide. The pattern of play continued through the rest of the half, with Wimborne supporting the ball carriers and keeping the ball alive. This excellent play, coupled with aggressive defence when not in possession led to a half time score of 27-0 having crossed the whitewash for three more well worked tries.

Sherborne weren't to be completely subdued though, and their excellent back row kept them in the game. The visitors scored three tries in the second period and with Wimborne also adding three, in effect the second half was drawn 17-17. Injuries had struck the squad in the lead up to the game and some tweaking and juggling had to be done as the game progressed and the boys tired. An excellent result against determined and relentless opposition, well done to all the boys.

Look forward to the return fixture in March.
