Two tries, but no points for Wimborne this week

Tries: Charlie Parry, Ben Hunt

Wimborne travelled to Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday hoping to build on recent encouraging performances and to keep as much daylight as possible between themselves and the teams sitting below them in the league.
Again a large number of changes were necessary in the match day squad with seven players stepping in following the narrow defeat at Stratford upon Avon the previous week.
Wimborne started brightly enough and made some promising ground into RWB territory but with just seven minutes played, the home side showed their obvious intent to play with the ball in hand and crossed for a converted try.
Thereafter Wimborne were always chasing the game and a combination of RWB intent to keep Wimborne on the back foot put the visitors defence under constant pressure. As a result two more converted tries followed by the half hour mark.
Wimborne having ringed the changes early, bringing Charlie Parry and Rowan Leaton on debut into the action, did finish the half positively to provide a glimmer of hope when after a quickly taken short penalty it was Parry who was on hand to take the final pass to score out wide and bring the half to a close.
Unfortunately for Wimborne the good work late on in the first half was quickly nullified when within thirty seconds of the restart RWB had notched up a fourth try. A fifth try followed shortly and at this point at 5-33 Wimborne were struggling to stay in the match.
In recent weeks their performance in the final quarter of matches has been very positive though and after ringing further changes with young Hewson also entered in to the fray, when Ashton Kerley broke away to send Ben Hunt in for second try hopes of a bonus point comeback were temporarily raised. Wimborne spent a long period of time thereafter close to the home team’s line endeavouring to break through again.
It was not to be though as RWB replied with two further unanswered tries to rack up the final score line of 10-47
Wimborne were disappointed to come away empty handed but will now regroup for the visit of Old Centralians from Gloucester on Saturday. This is the game in hand Wimborne have been waiting to play since it was postponed last month and they will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways.
