Bournemouth Festival

Bournemouth festival was our first meeting for a couple of weeks so it was good to see everyone. It was a lovely sunny day with a slight breeze. The boys turned up and were looking forward to playing. Our first game was against Hemel Hempsted this turned out to be our warm up game losing 6 – 2 but with good running play from all the team, and tries from Niall S, and Jo B.
Our second game was against Bridgend and was a real nail biter we played well with good tries from: Harry P, Harry S, Joe B, Jacob B and Ben S with some good passing from Tom P – A great team effort we won 7 – 6.
Our third game was real end to end stuff with a score of 9 – 9. great running from everyone. Just need now to work on our tagging but a great draw.
Our Fourth game was against Swanage and Wareham (local Darby) with tremendous running and tagging play, the team now were playing for each other which was great to see - a real team spirit.

So we were through to the semi final of the shield against Wootton Basset. First half played well with good tagging, support running and try scoring. Wimborne were 3 – 2 up at half time. The second half then started and Wootton scored in the first minute to make it 3 – 3 and then another try they were 4 – 3 up. We then came back to make it 4 – 4. We were in the last minute, we kept the pressure on but a bit of confusion on an attacking run we lost the ball to a turnover and Wootton ran in the winning try winning 5 – 4.

The team had played brilliantly and they had all given their all. I was extremely proud of the team for their commitment and team spirit.
Harry P Harry S Jim C Freddie L Tom R Niall S Jacob B Joe B Ben B Ben S Great thanks to the team -
A special mention to those players who were subs as they are just as important to those who played and to the parents for their support.

Match Reports

Winchester 'B' Festival
Wimborne U7’s Red team played exceptionally well in a tournament where it was the first time many of them had played together. With a squad of only 8 players for the tournament, all the children played really hard across all four matches.

The first match saw us draw 4-4 with Winchester. This should have been 4-3 to Wimborne, had it not been for the referees watch malfunctioning in the second half! Although we didn’t win the remainder of the matches, we held our own with some great defending and attacking play by the whole team.
Luke.W, Ben,Br, Ben.Ba and Daniel.S scored some great tries.
A special mention to Daniel.S for great supporting play on the attack and scoring two tries because of this.
The whole team defended really well with some great tagging, especially Oliver.H and Conor.J who tagged exceptionally well.
William.H and Lily.C made some nice breaks during the games.
Unfortunately we didn't win our last two matches however the whole team should be proud of themselves
Thank you to the all the parents for helping out on what was a lovely day which the children thoroughly enjoyed!

Wimborne U7's v Sherborne
Whilst our red team were doing battle in Winchester, our blue team, and our U6's faced Sherborne for a great morning of training and matches. After some rather slack tagging in previous weeks, it seemed that all the extra drills had paid off.
Our team worked incredibly well as unit with very strong and quick tagging, and some brilliant passing and scoring.
Our first match we were very unlucky to loose 4 - 3, but nothing to be ashamed of.
Our next two matches, were just superb. Firstly winning 5 - 2, and our last game we won 7 - 4.
We had great tries scored by Niall S. Ben C. Harry S. Freddie L. Harry P. Jacob B. Joshua L. Jim C. Ben S. Dylan P. and Tom R.
Well done to the whole squad, The strong performance shown will certainly give our team a good chance at the London Irish Festival this weekend.

Finally a special mention to our U6's who played some excellent rugby in their training matches, with some very quick runining and brilliant tries from Toby B. and Sam W.

Wimborne / Oakmeadians / Lytchett

We were hosting Oakmeadians, and Lytchett at home.

First up was our blue team who were fired up for their chance to prove themselves before the Winchester Tournament next week. Despite facing a well drilled Oaks side we pulled out all the stops and beat them 6 - 5 with some fantastic team work by the whole squad, and tries from Harry, Jo B, Jacob, Ben S, Joshua and Ben C.

Our match against Lytchett was a show of our ever increasing abilities. with a very strong 4 - 1 win. Tries from Ben S, Niall, Harry and Jacob. Our defending was even coming together and the tagging was so much more positive, well done everyone.

The "Blue" Team consisted of some key members from WRFC plus four players from Oaks who were keen for a game. Blues played against Wimborne and Oaks and although losing both games they worked well given the conditions. There were very good displays from Ben B and James S but a special mention must go to Anthonio from Oaks who played on for quite some time depsite being frozen by the poor conditions. Well done to all.

Just to add a little about the reds. A very young but keen team played two teams from Lytchett.
The first game was against their stronger team which was drawn 4 all.
The second was against their next team and we won 4 to 3.
Well done boys your first win against visiting opposition and for most of you your first win ever!.
The team worked very hard in tough conditions and showed that they were putting the learning points from recent practices into their game. Most pleasing was the boys positioning with them now starting to form up behind the ball in free play. A strong defence wins games and we are starting to get there.
Well done to the team you did Wimborne proud, and made us coaches, and parents proud of you all.

Eight of our group travelled to New Milton, for their second only festival. The day didn't start as well as we had hoped for, with us loosing to, New Milton, Bournemouth,& then the Trojans.
We were drawn into the plate semi's and with a new found spirit & energy, we beat Oakmedians with some fantastic rugby & reached the final.
With a strong possibility of winning the plate and the promise of hot dogs served to the team on the plate the following week.....We Won !!!
Our little hero's went out and beat Romsey 7 - 4.
Despite picking up an injury first thing in the morning, Niall went out and got two brilliant tries in the final along with cracking tries from, Jo B, Jacob , and Jim.
The tagging was first class and every player gave 100%. With there only being eight of them, they ended up playing all five matches without any of them complaining they were tired.
Well done to you all !
Plate final winning players were : Joe B, Jacob, Jim, Joshua, Freddie, Harry, Niall, Ben S.

A big thanks to our team's parents for putting up with not only the mud, but also us coaches!

At Home despite the no show from Bridport, our younger players had a great training session.
This was follwed by a match against the under 8's. well done to you all too.

After another Sunday morning of excellent performance, and most importantly fun, our under 7's did themselves proud at Oakmeadians.
Considering this is still a very new team they once again worked well as a combined unit showing a high standard of team work and effort.
We played three games, firstly just loosing out 4-3 to Oaks, second match was a very good 3-3 against Blanford, and finally 2-2 against Oaks again.
One of the highlights of the day was a blistering run & try by Freddie Longmore. I know it's almost Guy Fawks Night, but did Michael really have to strap a rocket to Freddie?

Not to forget our under 6's who trained at Oaks today, and showed some very good passing and tagging .. well done to you.

Many congratulations to everyone who came today, you made us all proud to be Wimborne RFC !!

Of the 11 team members we took to the Salisbury Festival, for 8 of them it was the first tournament they had ever played!
The first two games they unfortunately lost, but each game the number of tries increased!!
By the third game the team had woken up, realised which way they were supposed to be running, and worked together as a team, drawing 4-4 against Salisbury (2) team.
The fourth and final game of the tournament saw our Under 7's take a win against Salisbury (3) team 5 - 3.
The team ended the day, tired, but on a high! They had a fantastic day as did the parents.
