Training

IMPORTANT INFORMATION As from week commencing Monday, 8th December, training will go from Tuesday/Thursday evenings down to one night a week— on a Thursday. This will only be in place until at the latest mid February. The reason for this decision is that we are finding that players are tending to attend only one session a week and this is affecting squad training for the weekend matches. By cutting training down to one session over this period of the year when we experience the worst of the weather conditions, it will allow all the players to only plan for one evening a week concentrating everyone's efforts. Selection will still take place on a Tuesday and posted that evening ready for training on Thursday. Players selected for Saturday matches will be expected to attend training on the Thursday. After the Christmas break the use of Dumpton School’s astro turf will become available for wet weather training.

END OF SEASON MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR 2009

There are plans to hold an end of season Magical Mystery Tour setting sail from the club on the morning of Friday, 24th April and returning Sunday, 26th April.

The approximate cost is £130.00 but this will depend on numbers and deals being struck. This will include transport, accommodation on a bed & breakfast basis, one match on the Saturday and some freebies!

Can you let Tricky know if you are interested in going on tour so approximate numbers can be established and costs calculated. Wait for the message board posting to register your interest.

Newsletter 08 - 09 Season - Issue 4 (December)

As you see under the training section, training will go to Thursday evenings only from week commencing 8th December. What has prompted this decision is the numbers attending training on both evenings has reduced - with most players only ever making one of the nights. This causes problems trying to plan any meaningful team play training as invariably one or two key positions are left unfilled. This is not a permanent loss of Tuesday nights as it will be back in February or sooner if the weather is kind. However, it should be noted that selected players for weekend matches will be expected to attend the Thursday night training or risk losing their position.

Andy Curtis will still be available on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm. The past few weeks have proved very successful with Andy so lets continue to support this service. The cost remains at £10 a session which is a third of the price if you were to see a physio privately.

Results have been up and down - but a great performance last weekend against Bradford on Avon lifted everyone. I support the move to one night training for a number of reasons and the weekends match highlighted it. A longer break between matches and training will allow players to recover and not aggravate any injuries, team play numbers at training will improve and hopefully, moves run on the training park can be transferred to match days.

I have detailed information about a possible tour in the newsletter. I would be interested to hear from anyone that thinks they would like to go. This is the time of the year when tours have to be planned and matches arranged.

The 2nd team has done a fabulous job supporting the 1st team with players. The players that have stepped up to the mark have done a great job. A big thank you from the club, the coaches and me.

Finally, I have now placed the order for the blazer, shirt and ties so no further orders will be processed. I have yet to be given a delivery date but I will keep you informed as soon as I get confirmation.

The match in the next round of the D&W cup has been postponed as the previous round match has yet to be played. This means that some players can wine and dine their other half’s to put some credit into the wifey bank ready for the long trips away after Christmas and the tour weekend! However, there is an important D&W cup for the second team that weekend so if you are free please go along and support them. A sponsor has been found for next season which means two new shirt strips will be made available. The shirt provisionally chosen will also allow for further sponsors to be added to the shirt at no extra cost. This will send any sponsorship money directly into the team fund to use for essentials.
