Newsletter
September 2007
|
|
Hi and a warm welcome back to you all. There are
a few things to mention in our first newsletter.
Coaching Changes Secondly we would like to welcome John Merrick who has joined the team as a coach and wish him the best for the forthcoming season. This season sees the start of a new era for our age group as we have now moved into the Youth section and will play with the full quota of 15 players. Personally I have been very much looking forward to this year where the wing forwards (6&7) will be incorporated into the forward play and we will be playing longer matches most Sundays on larger pitches. I know certain coaches have been waiting for larger pitches to see how our backs can use the space effectively. Now is your chance! Training will be on Wednesday evenings (18:30 - 20:00) as we will be playing matches most Sundays. I have been very impressed to see over the last few years how the RFU develops the mini game by starting with tag rugby, later introducing tackling and adding more players each season up to 13 aside at under 12's. I know I speak for all the coaches when I say how proud we have been of the performances of our squads during those times with excellent results to show for our efforts. We have been a relatively small team but very brave and mobile and there is a real feeling that this squad is going to develop well over the next few years in the Youth section. The main reason that we are all here is to enjoy our rugby and the spirit of Wimborne Rugby Club. It is therefore very important to me that all the players enjoy being part of our squad and also that their parents enjoy the experience and are able to be more included if they wish. Jayne Fossey and the coaches will endeavour to ensure that we communicate at the right level and make the right rugby decisions for the players. I would urge you all to give continued feedback and ask questions should you feel there are any areas of confusion or concern. If we have a highly motivated squad the results will follow. King regards, Jayne and Nick |

Lexus
Tournament
September 23rd 2007 |
|
It's very flattering to be picked by Lexus as the club of choice for the Dorset area. The venue for the competition changes yearly and this year's was based North of Bristol. We are very grateful to our sponsors and also to Chipping Sodbury for fine hospitality. All in all it was about a thirteen hour round trip for us. We were advised by the tournament organisors to take 20 boys, we took 18. As there were no injuries to speak of and due to Weybridge dropping out of our pool, there probably ended up being 2 too many in the squad (hindsight is a wonderful thing). We are all extremely grateful to everybody who made the trip, but especially to those that didn't get to play as much as we would have liked. What was especially impressive was the total support and team spirit given by these boys. We had to make some very tough selection choices on the day which we tried to do in part consultation with the boys. When we were confident the pool games had been won we were bringing players on, but the semis final was just too tight. In respect to the rugby, we saw some truly excellent play from the squad, which was brave and intelligent and very skillful. When we go on to play 15 a side next week and going forward, this style of play will improve further and will produce some scintillating stuff. We have the prospect of a fantastic season ahead of us. Matches from now on and no more tournaments. As far as the results are concerned, obviously none of the sides chosen by Lexus across the UK are slouches and to blow away Bracknell and Hereford (both come with a certain reputation) is no mean feat. We'll never know and we shouldn't dwell on it to long, but its difficult not to wonder what the result of the Cirencester game would have been if both teams hadn't been hanging about for 7 hours in the rain. Many Thanks for your efforts.Coaches |
